I can't get ahold of the guy. He has a Vortech. It could be a good machine if they would finish their setup. You have to put it together and setup the pc and cables etc... They hooked up the machine and never had it work correctly. Before Christmas Vortech sent him a new driver as that replaced one of the bad one on the Y axis. It blows me away that some of these guys will buy a lowball China POS to make money with. Then when they get it and have no clue how to set it up. They start crying that they are losing money with it? They should buy a machine for a few more bucks that will run when it hits the floor?

Well I went with a ShopBot because no matter where I turned There was somebody to help.

IF I e-mail them I have a responce with in the hour even if its just to say "I have 8 e-mails in front of your's I'll get back to you shortly" and they do.

If I call I can talk to a human (and more times than not the one I want to talk to).

IF They are closed in Durham I have cell phone numbers of other users and employees who are willing to help.

It was simply a no brainer for me. THe other machine that was in close contention and not listed in this poll for some reason. Was just to big, bulky, yellow and heavy duty for my needs.

Yea I buy based on color too......LOL. and Yellow just didn't match my shop decor.

sorry for not getting back to you guys in a timely fashion but as i stated before i had to send my computor to "those guys" and it mysteriously got smashed beyond repair so i have been having to go to a friends house to use his computor but as soon as i can get another new computor i will respond to all questions about my router that still does not work. i live in south east Michigan if any one knows some one who is knowledgeable about fixing routers they can call me at 1-517-540-0103 ask for Matt.
    thank you.

also thanks to the guy who posted the place to get parts from, but i do not know what is wrong with it to even begin to know what parts i would need, hence the frustration with this company as they also do not know what is wrong with thier own router....NICE!

i have always only wanted and asked for a router that works....yet going on 7 months now and NOTHING.

    there is help

camaster sold the routers until 06 they are distributed in the us under a various names and wher you get it is the crucial factor, there a re some knowledgable persons who can help you and the parts are available in the US.

but if you purchased it from near the boston area the chances are slim, ebay ain't your friend on this one!! if you go to vectric's forum

    http://www.vectric.com/forum/

and go to the show us your machine section and scroll down you will see a machine like yours!

    look on page 8

there is a fellow there who has had some success with the machine

    there are others as well

    Your Choice of Routers

    norby16

This thread is quite old but I wonder which did you buy?

I am interested in comments by users of EZ-ROUTER entry level routers. On their website I see three that fit this description. Does anyone know what price range these are in? I like the HYBRID I see on Joe's website but with limited tools I think I would rather buy something already built.

i have a lot of respect for the joes router and am real close to building one to use at home

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKXEo2DBHxY&feature=related"]YouTube - 4X4 Router[/ame]

you may also want to use the search for ez-router there are other request on the forum for info.

a good question would be "what do you want to do with your router"?

    Jim,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I did as you suggested and came back with nothing current.

"I am interested in comments by users of EZ-ROUTER entry level routers."

I have studied the EZ-ROUTER website but cannot see/get enough info to satisfy me so I asked for help by users. I am very familiar with Joe's HYBRID. The drawings are GREAT but, with my limited tools/shop I wonder if starting with almost ready to run would be an alternative. I wish I lived near you and maybe we could build two HYBRIDs at a time.

I have seen several used ShopBot Buddies that were interesting but were gone in a flash or were a cross country trip.

    Thanks

the kit he sells is a well accepted product! it really comes down to what do you wish to produce on a router and the size and space. i did this life size 3d in slices

Point me to someone using one or some details. Websites without prices makes decisions difficult.

What if you want to get your feet wet by starting small? I have no interest in using a router for business.

Jim if you are interested in Joe's HYBRID give serious consideration to buying the plans as I did. This will allow access to the closed forum. It is filled with many skilled/helpful folks that span the globe. A good group.

just enter joes cnc in search, most 4x4 basic cnc (shopbot, ez-router, camaster, shop sabre etc.) are going to run 5-9000 you can build a joes for less than that. just enter joes cnc on you tube there are lots there. joey at camaster built this machine and the owner finished the wiring motors etc himself.

I've narrowed it down to 3 key players.
    EZ router
    Shopsabre
    Shopbot

    Also theres:
Digirout - but after their lack of response to most of my emails I got a bad vibe and there outstandingly low prices at first drew me in but now made me suspicious.
Warthog cnc - Waiting on a quote from them/ have recently found them
Vortech cnc - Allegedly not too good of a reputation from what I've read on the posts.

Never the less/ with about 10,000$ to invest. Which would you vote most reliable/ supported / ready to run cnc machine. Personally I'm casting my vote on EZ router.

    (group)
I bought a PRSStandard96x48 Shopbot last summer and have been very pleased with it.

Yes, it comes on a big pallet, and yes, for the basic price you have to assemble it yourself, or you can hire a Shopbot tech to come do it for you at extra cost. The upside is that by assembling the router yourself you intimately know your machine when you are done, and can easily alter, move or recalibrate the table based on the knowledge and experience gained from the initial assembly and calibration. An experienced tech can (metaphorically speaking) hand you the keys in half a day. OTOH, it took me a day to assemble and jig the table with simple hand tools, working slowly and reading everything 3 times. I had never actually seen a Shopbot in person so had no intuitive "feel" for how it goes together. It took another day to mount the gantry (the only part where I needed help -- my petite wife assisted me without drama), wire everything up, load and test the software, etc., and run the wasteboard leveling routine. A pleasant weekend's work and a complete neophite can be cutting their first pieces.

There is a terrific Shopbot forum (http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/discus.cgi), and with more than 5000 machines in the field, the well of knowledge and support is truly deep. I have gotten stumped a few times and called/emailed Shopbot's tech folks directly, and they always replied quickly (even after hours emails are forwarded to the "on duty" tech) and had the answer.

If one really has only $10k to spend and plans to cut flat stock (plywood, plastic sheet, etc.), used 4'x8' PRT models typically go for well under $8-grand. Newer PRS models start a couple of grand more used.

YMMV, but I am quite satisfied with mine.

    EZ Router??

You went with the EZ Router over the Shop Sabre or Shop Bot?? Looks like you gave up a lot of quality, I would have recommended either a Shop Sabre CNC or a Shop Bot due to the machine structures and company backing them. I have had both of those machines and honestly my Shop Sabre has been the best out of them... I love the tech support I get there. The Shop Bot was a good starter machine and I learned a lot on it but it just wouldn't keep up with my needs.. Either way.. They both were better then the EZ router... Good Luck!

I'd Agree with CarveCreat .... The ShopSabre is a much higher quality system then anyone of those others. It shouldnt surprise you that ShopBot leads the poll because those guys opperate a Forum and are online all the time voting for themself... the ShopSabre does no forum based support and to be second highest voted should show that its a quality product... ShopSabre is hands down the best CNC system on the market for this price range....Good luck with your EZ junk.
