    Extended X2 Mill Base

    Hi Guys,
    I need some opinions. i am working on building a new base for my x2 that is bigger and more percise. here is what i have right now

    the travel is

    x=17"
    y=12"
    with a 24"x8" table.
    base and table would be made out of polymer cement
    all axis are on linear motion ball bearing rod and blocks

    i am looking for suggestion on another why to contruct it or flaws i dont see

    thanks again mike

    I would definitely flip the bearing on your X axis. That way the area under the milling cutter is always supported. The way you have it now as you move to the left or right you don't have any support under the milling head.

    How about the saddle? Is that polymer as well? Look thin for polymer. I think you may get better result with an X2 style saddle. More solid. You need thick section for polymer to work well. Overall interesting. Love to see how it turns out.

    no the saddle would be aluminum. just the table and the base would be polymer.

    Thanks again Mike

    No worries of differential movement between polymer, aluminium table and steel rails?

    One of these days I am definitely going to have to build a polymer machine. I saw the pictures of the one on the CNCcookbook website that just looked incredible.

    Keep us posted on the progress.
