    My Router Project

I'm planning to build a decent sized router using an old horizontal camera base unit similar to the picture attached. I'm thinking this would be a good start to a moving table design as this machine has two moving beds. The first one is to adjust the cameras focus and the second table moves the picture frame thingy. I plan to link the two beds together to provide the base fot the moving table. The machine needs little modification to change it to a router as all the slides are in place andready to go. I hope to achieve a working envelope of 48" x 60".
Anyway l was wondering if anyone else has tried to retro these machines? I would like any and all comments about this massive undertakeing or if anyone else would like a similar machine to retro these a couple on ebay. Smaller than the one i hooked onto.
As well i would like some advise on controlers and stepper motors i know nothing about this end of cnc.

Hmm, that is VERY interesting. What are the rails/slides like?
I would think classic camera equipment would be very expensive, though...

Take lots of pictures, can't wait to see how this turns out!

Got my whole machine used from an auction for 60.00 complete with a solid vaccum table that works incredibly well and 220v lights. These are an obsolete machine and are easy to find cheap.

Wow! Those look very well built too!

At the very least, an excellent source of parts, and for only $60, what a steal. The rails alone are worth three times that.

So, what should someone search for when looking for one of these machines?
Thanks for bringing these machines to our attention.

I was just on a site now i lost it but they were willing to give their machine to anyone who would pick it up for free! I wish i could remember the site it was in NJ but you are looking for a NuArc Horizontal Camera. THere is one on ebay but i'm not sure of how much it was. I'll try and find that website and post i here for you.

Hmm...2002? I have a feeling it is gone.

I'm going to keep my eye out for these set-ups. Cheap source of rails at the least!
