Full step and half step hybrid driver?

Just wondering if any drivers out there right now move full step for rapids and micro step for normal moves and precision positioning? I'm making a positioner that will have next to no load but requires an exact final position. I"m thinking i can full step much faster due to both processor requirements as well as motor limitations but once i'm within 1 full step switch to micro step to get it exactly where it needs to be. I could just stay in microsteps but i wanted faster transitions. Somebody let me know if this is possible or why it won't work.

Didn't realize they did that, so no issues doing this?

The Geckos still need to be fed microsteps, but internally they convert them to full steps at higher rpm's.

I think you're talking about outputting a combination of full steps and microsteps. Not sure how you'd go about that.

I'd be writing the software for the controller, sending the combination of full steps to micro steps won't be an issue once i determine the best way in the steppers view.
    Plan:
Starting with a stepper in a micro step, i'd micro step to a full step position
move at full steps to within one full step of final position
then back to micro steps to the final position

I am correct in that I will be able to attain higher RPM's full stepping right? This from only the stepper's point of view. I know the torque will increase which will help fight the drag in the system.
