    deep part off w/peck help

I'm trying to part off an 8.0" diameter nylatron rod. The G75 cycle on our
SL 30 is only stopping, then restarting the groove, as opposed to stop/retract/restart as in a peck drilling cycle.
How do I get the part off blade to retract 0.01 -0.02 before continuing?
    any help would be great.......

According to the Haas manual the retract distance for G75 is controlled by Setting 22.
An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.

Thanks, Geof, I'll run out to the shop and try it.

This is a bit off topic, but what kind of partoff tool can you find that will reach 4 inches? I've shopped around a little, and have only found the standard 6" blade (which will reach 3" radius if you baby it) and the next increment blade seems to be some gawdawful thing that will part off a 24" bar taking a cut 1/2" wide
First you get good, then you get fast. Then grouchiness sets in.

(Note: The opinions expressed in this post are my own and are not necessarily those of CNCzone and its management)

I could use that information too please, I was trying to part off a 6" dia bar and the noise the machine was making would have woken the dead!

I ended up hacksawing it which took forever.
I love deadlines- I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

He did say Nylatron, not Alumatron. I'd bet that the parting tool doesn't need to be very robust to cut plastic.

Nonetheless, I'm waiting for an answer too. Always learning in here.

There is a 1.375" diameter bearing in the center, so I'm not going in the full
4 inches. I was cheating a std. 6 in. blade out to its veritable limits, which, would only work on plastic. The problem has been with the insert pulling to the right a little, giving me an undesirable conccave surface instead of flat.

I did find an older style HSS blade .250 wide and 10" long. It should be here today. I'll just have to make a holder for it.
