    ER16 Collets **INCH**

Does anyone have a source for ER16 collets that are ground for INCH
    fractional tooling shanks?
All the dual metric/inch marked collets are metric. Yes they will close down ok
on inch shanks, but it's very agrivating to do so. Just try the 1/4"
shank in a 6-7mm collet. It has to be closed almost all the way to grip.
Besides accuracy suffering, I hate the hazard of dropping tooling out when
the tool suddenly pops out with the collet being pulled loose.
A friend has the fractional ground jobs and a shank will stay in. Nice.
These used to be available from Enco.
    Thanks for any help.

Combo inch/metric collets are pretty much junk.

The Taig stock ER-16 collet sets are in inch, fit very well, and are actually very decent for the price.

There are certainly more accurate ones out there for several hundred bucks a set, but at that point you have to look at the spindle they are going in though. The Taigs stock spindle is freakin' amazing - its almost inconceivably accurate for a sixty dollar unit, but its still not a two thousand dollar NSK. The really pricey high-end collets probably won't make a noticable difference in the stock unit, so I'd recommend just sticking with the fifty dollar Taig set.

Royal makes native inch size ERs, like Stepper says a bit pricey and over kill for a small hobby mill but if you only need one or two sizes its not that bad and they should last forever.

Mari-Tool lists both mm and Imperial sizes:

~$13 each. I have a set of their ER-20 collets and they seem to be very good quality.
