Question Protection for Renishaw Tool Setter

    Hi,

I'm a noob to machining, and I have a new Hass Super Mini Mill.
I've got the Renishaw probe and tool setter, which I like a lot.

I've come to realize that the tool setter is vulnerable.
Maybe I'll make a programming mistake and chew it up with a cutter.
Maybe I'll eject a part out of the vise and smash it.

The table is small, and I need to use all the space I can.
So I can't afford to provide generous clearances around the setter.

What are your strategies for protecting it?
Is it possible to have a "no-go zone" programmed into the controller?
How about some sort of removable armor?

if you can afford the room,
i use a piece of square tubing and just slid it over the setter when i need to protect it. easy in and easy out.
im sure theres away to restrict the area in the program itself, but that does not get away from stringy shaving grabing it,work piece fly free or just plain mishandling of tools or work piece.

it would be ideal if you could remove to tool setter when not in use. thats what i do on my NT4250. it relocates precisely and is therefore removed and safely stored in a huge padded wooden box underneath my workbench.

    Protection

I have an old tupperware bowl that I put over mine. Keeps that coolant and debris off of it and is easily removed for tool setting.
