    Fadal 4020 spindle removal

    Hi,

I've been trying to drop my spindle to follow this procedure:

    https://www.fadalcnc.com/media/pdf/A...indle_Tram.pdf

I can't get it to move. The tool in/out button did nothing. I've loosened the 6 bolts holding the spindle cartridge to the head, and the ring at the top of the spindle. I've shocked it a little with a plastic mallet (on the stationary part of the cartridge from the top, and from the side on the bottom) but I don't feel like hammers and precision spindles go together.

Any tips or tricks to getting this thing out? It seems like at one time there were videos available for this, but nothing is still up except https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGIadBju5Ac

I'm definitely not going to hammer on the rotating part of the spindle like he did. Is mine just rusted together inside? Currently using a torpedo heater to heat the casting before trying to remove again.

    Thanks,
    -Nate

Update: Torpedo heater on top of toolbox aimed at head casting worked. Heated it until an infrared thermometer on the casting read 135 degrees F, and tapped the top again.
