Phil, do you have the eagle files of the A3977SED board? Or a cooper in *.PDF? Thank you so much.

i have dis-assembled my reflow machine due to lack of space.
the heater/blowers are ideal for soldering/ desoldering the surface mount devices on these boards, or any others as far as that goes.
i also have a very high speed picker thats going as well
i think i am going to put them on e_bay, unless anyone here is interested first.
i will wait 2-3 days for any responces, before the go to e_bay.
this was a 15 axis machine
    below, machine picture and parts.

I bought the boards and am trying to buy the parts. I can't seem to locate any A3977. Newark is out and estimates a 121 day wait. I don't want to wait that long.

    Digikey A3977KED. http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSea...277048&Site=US

The KED replaces the SED. Same functional part and package. KED version is ROHS compliant where the SED wasn't.

    Thanks
I went to digikey to order the A3977KED but all they had on stock was A3977KEDTR-T. Will these work?

Yes, the suffix past the KED is just how the IC is packaged for shipment. Tape, reel.....

Do you have a jumper on JP1? There needs to be a jumper from the center post of jp1 to one of the posts next to it.

sorry but you sais in a pdf

Without the 3977 soldered on and IC1 not installed:
    1. Power up the board and with a DC Voltmeter with the negative lead connected to board ground,
    measure 5vdc at:
    a) IC1 (74HC14) Pins 14, 13,1 and 5. U1 (3977) pin 16
    2. Measure the V+ (power supply) at U1 pins 43 and 25.
    3. Power down, install IC1, power back up.

but is not possible i have 5V in pin on ic1 the copper trace is not racorder in 5v only pin 14 it is. but my attention is not held has this point because the pdf is for the version normal

The instructions are for the other copper version, so they will not be completely correct for Joes version. The 3977 pin 5 should be 5V with no input to 10 pin connector. Jumpering pin 3 of the 10 pin connector to gnd should change the a3977 pin 5 to 0v also. This is the signal that controls direction to the 3977.

    hello,
    sorry large week.
I did what you said and all is correct.it during the engine always turns in the same direction and this same if pin 5 (dir) of A3977 is hi or low ??????
however the volatge is of 4.78 volt on this pine and 0V if change of dir.
a other question the pfd must it be has 2.5v obligatorily?

pfd at 2.5V is set to mixed decay, you can change resistors to changed the decay setting. Above 3V is slow, below 1.05V is fast decay is selected, between those levels is mixed decay.

If pin 5 of the 3977 is changing states with the direction input to the board and the motor isn't changing direction, you could have miswired the motor, have a bad motor, or have a bad 3977.

    Matching motor to controller

I'm looking at building the first version of the controller build on the Allegro 3977 IC. I have a few questions but before I get to those. My background is that I'm in school for Millwright. So the electronics I understand but not quite so hopefully someone with far greater knowledge will be able to answer my questions.
The controller board link is http://pminmo.com/ss3977/ss3977.htm
I'm looking at the following motors on ebay.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-Vexta-PK266-02A
It has 1.4amp at 5vdc for bipolar series. Will it work with that controller?
What is the PFD mean on the controller instructions mean its near the reference pin to set the amps for the motor?
    thank you jon

    hi there,
I'm new to the forums, i've searched a lot in the forums and i couldn't find anything related. I want to ask if trip current of the motor can be changed with a3977 ic on the fly. I want to use this card with a simple modification, i will connect a digital potentiometer and i want to raise the motor to the peak current whenever it will rotate. Else i want to lower the current for not to heat the motor excessively but also obtain a slight braking from the motor. If anybody tried to change the trip current on the fly please let me know.
