Loosing Steps, Machine Stall, for no Apparent Reason

First of all I have a taig with keling drivers & steppers 270oz 36v, Mach 3

I am pocketing in WOOD and I am loosing steps and stalling. It makes a loud horrible sounding noise and doesnt move. It is usually only momentary but once it seemed like is wasnt going to stop so I killed it. It does this even slowed to 250mm/min (10in/min) and I and can rapid at 500 and can usu cut wood w/o loosing @ 450mm. I am only cutting like 3mm deep (just making some Christmas presents).

It seems to be happen at particular portions of the part program, I can stop the program and move with MPG fine. I have no idea what could be going on?

    Any Ideas?

    JoeDawg,

You may want to add damper's to your steppers.

    Check out the video.

Do you have Sherline 1/2 pluse mode enabled?

Have you adjusted your timing to 5 microseconds

    Thanks for the help!!

My sherline 1/2 pulse was unchecked and my step and direction pulses were set to 0.

I checked the 1/2 pulse box and changed the step and direction to 5.
This to mostly fix the problem but later on it briefly happened again on some new code. Also the step and direction boxes it have changed themselves to 3 once and to 4 the second time????

Also what exactly is the problem the guy in the video is having and how do the "dampers" fix it? Just curious, I don't think I'm having the same issue.

Joe, make sure you also check your gibs. I had the same issues of losing steps and it was really too tight (and crappy) gibs.

    Joe,
Which keling drives do you have? What microstepping at they set at? What amps are the drives set to and what amps are your motors? The taig, has 20 tpi screws so to get fast movement from them you have to spin the motors really fast. If your microstepping on the drives is set really high your going to loose alot of torque. I would try setting the microstepping to 1/8 or lower. 1/4 step may even give you back some torque. Also as mentioned the gibs could be either to tight or way to loose causing the table to twist and bind.
