Hybrid build in the land of the metric kiwi‏

I would like to perchance your plans for the 4x4 hybrid but would like
to ask some questions about the finished unit to make sure it is
suitable for what i want to cut.

I plan to cut thin carbon skins on my longboards as i have developed a
sensitivity to the dust from over exposure. Will this rig handle
cutting 2-3mm of carbon and how about slow cutting of aluminium? What
accuracy and repeatability can i expect? Do the plans come with the
dxf files of the parts than need to be cut because i would need to
change them them as i only have access to metric sheets of mdf?

Could some one also give me more details about the shape of the
extrusion as i also need to make sure i can get that down here too.
Also how tricky is it to make the cutting size bigger as i would
really like something more around the 8x4 but could settle for a 4.5x4.5

    many thanks

Cutting fiber is no problem, and Aluminum also, you will need to adjust the spindle speeds and feed rates to accommodate, and most people take shallow cuts with metal.

Look at this post #945, you can see paul made some mods to the machine, basically the top portion is derived from the plans, his cutting area is 55"x55".

    Cutting files

Will the v grove bearings work with the extention of the cutting bed size or is it advisable to go to an other system?

Could you also tell me what format we will get the cutting file the mdf and plastic parts and how tricky it will be to mod them for use down here where we use sheets that come in mm thickness?

The #2 v-bearings are used in his and the standard cnc 4x4 hybrid, the dxf files are on the support forum, you can mod them in cadd.

    Almost convinced

Do you know of any one who has made a unit from metric parts and sheet thickness that i might be able to get a set of modded drawings?

have you seen any units that have a 1.5x1.5m cutting bed as i dont think i have the skills to build something untested and get it to work.

    thanks for such quick replys

thanks for that. Im sure i could find advice from the builders in the pacific.

Have you seen any one extend the cutting bed out to 1.5x1.5m and what mods had to be made to get it to this size

what accuracy and repeatability are people generally achieving?
