    saw blades where to purchase?

i have been using a verysmall import bandsaw for the last 8 years or so lately i spend more time fixing it than i do cutting material,i got lucky and just picked up a used hyd mech s20 saw a local business owner let go at a great deal, the blade is in bad shape and i would like to get a new one preferrable something that will rip thru aluminum like butter dont know the exact size but it cuts 13x18 material and similiar models list 13 foot blade lengths 1 inch wide.

    thank you for any info.

    Congrats Timmy
You have picked up a superb saw. The S20 is considered a 20" saw.
    Blade size is 13'6" x .035 x 1" x (#teeth).
This blade is very common size and most companies sell these size for 20-30% less than other sizes because it is normal stock and mass produced.
I am currently using (and very happy with) Bahco blades.
If all you cut is aluminum ask a rep which is the best blade.

    Saw blades

I have used DoAll blades for 20+ blades and am very pleased with the quality especially the welds and they have a large selection.

I used the Starret Matrix 2 for a few years. It is a great blade.
I only quite using it because they were getting terrible at supplying in a timely fashion.
    2 more points.
You should be able to get that blade for less than that (I assume you have an industrial account?)
Unless your aluminum as all thin wall tube your blade is WAY too fine (IMO). I use a 4-6 for general (found 5-8 to be too fine) and would use a 2-3 or 3-4 for aluminum solids (IDK what you are cutting)

    Smile

my material supplier reccomeded the 2-4 tooth configuration as well, the 5-8 leaves a very smooth cut surface.

the next blade i get will be the 2-4.

so far i am impressed with the saw it cuts a 6 inch solid within .001 parralell from top to bottom.

i couldnt believe how much our material cost went down when we started cutting our own material, almost 50%

i have also been reading about the trend to minimize material and machining, now i can cut our material within .020-.030 of finished size and eliminate waste, and increase yield.

    very happy customer

definately liking the old saw however i have decided to upgrade the worn downfeed hydraulic cylinder and metering valve.

    any suggestions where to look?

i have been trying to source a cylinder 14 center to center retracted with a 2-3 inch bore 3000psi specifications with no luck

    thanks

No sense tripping over Dimes to pick up Nickels. Just call Hyd-Mec and get a new one 1-877-276-7297. Their parts are not too badly inflated.

Especially since you won't have to monkey around with it to make it work. Sounds like you are a production shop, so time not spent fixing machines is time doing billable work.

Doesn't seem to me that Timmy is production, but either way that is money well spent considering a hack job would still cost the same in parts + a day or two labour.

14 days later a $29 flow control valve shows up with a $176 bill, guy at hyd mech says send us photos of the cylinder,i say they were sent 2 weeks ago, then states i dont know if we can get you a cylinder or not,he say send photos so our engineer can get you what you need,i say i can give you the specs on the phone, guy behind the counter says it dont work that way it is very complicated engineering stuff to see if it will work and we need photos,i say so you tell me your engineer is going to derive all info neccessary to engineer manufacture and send me what i need off a photo? and i hear yes,so i say so why dont i have the cylinder i ordered and payed for 2 weeks ago?

the bad thing i had an employee ruin $400 worth of material 2 blades and 2 capacitors last week on this saw(more employees fault then saw he is fired by the way).

i did install the flow control valve today and it seem to make a big difference but i can see the cylinder is worn out.

i engineer, design and manufacture components that i retail to the general public, not entirely production especially given the small machin i have but i have more work than i can get done in the next 2 months,so i run 18 hours a day 7 days a week.

hopefully one day i can get a bigger mill and also get a cnc lathe.

guess i have now choice but to make my own now.

just wanted to keep everyone updated fyi

    cheers.

    Hey Tim

Sorry to hear about the BS you are getting.

I would bet that you are capable of rebuilding the cylinder (or having it done).

Otherwise, the retrofit shouldn't be too bad, the mechanics of the saw aren't complicated (as you well know).
