Read analog micrometer with webcam, what name to give the software ?

    Hi..

I am looking for a name to give to GPL open source software i wrote.
    See screenshots below.

Maybe someone here can come up with a suitable name for it ?
Preferably a short name. (better for use inside the source code.)
And a name which gives none or a few hits on google.
Which makes it easier to find info on it for users.

    The software does this:

    Take a analogue micrometer.
Aim a webcam at the micrometer.
    Then start my program.
The prog takes a picture of the micrometer with the webcam.
The prog finds the position of the needle on the micrometer.
And displays the found value on screen.
And puts the found value in a chart.

Currently the prog can take 4 pictures per second on my slow celeron 700 mhz computer.
    This is 4 x 3600 = 14400 measurements in one hour :-)
Can you beat this by eye and hand ?? :-)))
All nicely stored in a chart in a image file.

You can move the micrometer over a surface with a servo motor.
Gathering lots of data, while you are sitting back and are smiling :-)

A screen shot of the prog with an example.
The example question is how much does this axis wobble ?
The point of the micrometer is put on the 10 mm axis of a servo motor.
The axis slowly makes several turns.
Mean while the prog reads the micrometer 4 times per second.
The result shows the axis wobbles about 20 micrometer.

The resulting png file with the measured data.

Hopefully someone can come up with a nice name.

    Thanks

    Vroemm.

    Thanks for the name.
It is surprisingly difficult to find a reasonable name.

Is there something which is better then this principal of measuring fast ?

    Here are the screenshots again.
Now the first two in smaller resolution of 800x600.

It is likely the previous where removed because they exceeded the max resolution allowed on cnczone.

    Nice try.
I had not thought of using 'opti' in the name.

    Thanks for the try.

How about micCam. Did a google search and nothing came up.

Very interesting program. Would like to see a video or pics of the actual machine setup.

    Thanks

There is mic-cam software, 6 million hits.

The name could also be not related to measuring or webcams.
Just a meaningless combination of characters might be ok as name.

    Thanks

I'd hesitate to use the word "micrometer" in the name of the software.

The instrument being read is generally referred to as a dial depth indicator.

The software is made with the QT library.
Many people then put a Q in front of their software name.
    Like QCAM, QCAD.

    Q Dial Depth Indicator Recorder.

    QDDiREC

QDDiREC gives no real results on google.
    Zero results on YAHOO.

    May i present :

    DDiFUN

    Dial Depth Indicator Fun.

I found no software of this name except for one subroutine.
Gives only 32 hits on google.
And only 6 hits on yahoo.

And the low case 'i' between the high case characters looks good.

Thanks everybody for brainstorming for a name.
And thanks to Eurisko for introducing the term "dial depth indicator".
