    MWF Shelf Life

    Hello,
Does the composition of MWFs change with storage ?
Why does the shelf life of MWF is short comparing to ordinary lubricants ?

I have a couple of barrels of Blasocut 2000 from 2004 (expired in 2006) which I hate to waste - are they useful ? will it damage my tool ?

    Thanks in advance,
    Peter.

......Coolants are given shelf life limits because the emulsifiers that create the water oil chemical chains break apart over time. As to what you can do to increase the self life is a question for their chemical technical advice group. I would guess that if the coolant still mixes with water that it will not harm your machine i.e. rust ect. However I could not say if it will perform as well as fresher coolant. Blasocut is as I understand pure mineral oil coolant. Throwing away that much coolant would be expensive.

    RE: MWF shelf life

    Peter,

I work for a coolant manufacturing company. Our and many other companies that I know of do not have shelf life on their coolants. I do however feel that you will be okay to use the product.

The only thing that might give you trouble is rancidity. The biocides that are added to the coolant by the manufacturer may have a short shelf life do to the biocide gassing off. The machinability of the product will probabaly be fine, however if the biocide package has died, the coolant may go rancid quicker than normal.

If that is the case, a simple tank-side biocide additive should do the trick. "Refresh C7"
