    Drive Fault / Spindle overload

Hi everybody. I have been having some problems. When I start my spindle running about 1500-2000 rpms the spindle starts good. When I try to start it with 2500 plus RPM's I get a drive fault or spinlde overload error. I can start it at 2000 RPMs and bump it up to 3000 or higher with no problem.

    Any comments will be helpful.

    Thanks

    DF

Current draw vs time to get to speed and the current drops is too great.
Do you have true 3 phase power?
Are you on a phase converter? Static or rotary?
What is the spindle motor overload set to?
Is the spindle motor wired for the correct incoming voltage?

I am running a American Rotary 5hp phase converter. I tried adjusting the spindle overload from the lowest to the highest setting but that didn't help. Originally I had a Bridegport tech wire the machine for 230 volts. Is there a way I can check an area with a voltmeter at startup to see if the voltage is dropping to low? I'm beginning to think a phase converter is not a reliable way to power this machine.

    Thanks George.

If you measure each leg with respect to ground with a voltmeter, probably the artificial leg goes way low when you start up the spindle.
There are a lot of posts about this.
