Thumbs up How do you disable SMI?

    Hey guys,

I have a Dell optiplex GX 280. With an Intel FW82801FB Chipset. I have read the WIKI pages on disabling SMI but have no clue how still.

It's not a BIOS thing, it has to do within a Terminal and commands. I don't know what the commands are, how to call things etc.

I read the WIki pages, downloaded the "rtai_smi.ko" file to the desktop but have no idea what to do. I am running 6.06.

I basically need step b step, comand by comand details on how to disable SMI. It seems like it will solve my LAtency problems!

    Thanks,

    -Jason

I have read that. I still don't know where to start, what to compile exactly. What it all means, when it comes to Linux. I suck, I may be missing files. I don't know how to call those commands and so on....

have you taken a read of this page
    http://cvs.gna.org/cvsweb/magma/base...n;cvsroot=rtai

basicly first go into the bios and turn of all power saving features there are, you dont mention the make of motherboard you system has in it so cant look up what options there are (if you look on mother board should be a name and a model printed some where)

sometime making the CPU fan be on 100% all the time, instread of the bios doing smart cooling can help,
turn of any bios sleeping functions, wake on button etc

and then see how it is, if you still need to fiddle with SMI then look into it little more.
