I managed to aquire a GMN 60.000 rpm spindle from a scrapped PCB-drilling machine. They threw away the drivers and electronics so I need to find a new driver.
This is printed on the spindle:
GMN TSS 62 - 60000
0,7kW S 6-60%
60000 1/min
165V 3,8A 1000Hz
I found a pdf with information on the newer spindles from that company so I have some clues.
There is one ground wire and three wires with bigger diameter that I assume is U, V & W (three phase) and two smaller that I gather is a temperature sensor. I will measure and see but I don't think it is a tachometer since that seems to be an option only used for GMN spindles that have hollow shaft cooling.
What kind of driver could I use to power this spindle, a servo driver of some sort (in open loop mode so to speak) or some kind of VFD? What about the 1000Hz figure, most VFD:s I have seen goes to 400Hz.
Economy is a factor, I need something relatively cheap since this is for a hobby project. The spindle cost med about 250usd and I need an air compressor and a air/oil lubrication system...but it is a nice challenge to try and get it going!
Any tips are appreciated!
