So I have a treadmill motor that I use as the spindle on my CNC mill. I'm currently using the original control, but I would like to build a controller that will close the loop and allow me to have better control over the motor and provide the possibility of bi-directional operation. I was wondering if any of you who know a bit more about IGBT's to let me know if this powerex integrated IGBT (ps21765) would work as a h-bridge for a brushed DC motor like a treadmill motor.

It seems to me that these powerex modules ($20-35) are affordable, and provide all that is needed for the power stage of the DC, or three phase AC motor control. I was thinking that one of these modules along with a control IC like a uc2638 could be combined to make a very simple brushed DC motor drive.

By the way, I use EMC and would have closed loop control with an encoder and a PID loop running on the PC.

Thanks in advance for your help
