    Tool Drum On Arrow 750

    Hi
Has anybody had trouble with the motor on the tool drum.
Mine dose not index to the next tool. The air blast works but the drum dose not turn. I taped the motor with a rubber hammer and it started working.
It worked for 2 days then stoped again. I think the motor has a dead spot.
Any ideas? Also can the motor be changed without droping the drum?
    Thanks
    Joe

We've had ours seize up once. It wasn't the motor but the bearings were bone dry. If you remove the round plate on the bottom center of the drum, look up and you can see the bearings. The only way we could get any lube on them was to press some grease in there as best we could. There is a nut that you can loosen with a spanner wrench what will back the bearings off a little to help get you moving. Dont forget to re-tighten. It is a pain the the butt job.

    Good luck

Hi, Check the proximity sensors on the far left hand side when the drum is at spindle, there's a small light on the sensor that flashes as each pocket position, if it isn't working, it may be just the sensor, it might be the actual motor that drives the cam and then subsequently the tool drum itself (try cleaning inside the open drum with coolant to ensure the holes nearer the centre of the drum are free from swarf etc (this save all the hassle of dropping the drum tool ring..

Have had a similar problem several times on my machines before, hope this helps..

Thanks for the insight I did both when it first happened.
It seams to stall only in one direction. So my sext step is to change the
relays in the back power box. I hope this works.
    Thanks

Once per pocket error is most likely your drum proximity sensor

That's what I did when I was having problems. Could have swore it was mechanical because of the thuds and bangs when it indexed one way, Changed the bearings... same problem. Changed the motor...same problem. Finally called 5's and they had me check the relays and one was bad. Problem solved.

Most of the time you need to drop the drum and grease the bearings and the inside index pockets where the Geneva unit engages the drum. It uses a 3 phase motor for the movement and you could have a bad contact on the contactor. There is a separate contactor for each direction, take a meter and check the voltage on each of the 3 legs on each contactor. Should be 230 vac leg to leg or about 115 vac to ground on each leg.
