    Fanuc 10T

I am having trouble with our new (used) Vertical Lathe.
Toshiba Shibura VTL with a 10t control. We have replaced the encoder on the spindle but do not have an actual S for the spindle RPM.the ACT S is displayed just not functioning. When we changed the encoder we got an alarm but that went away after the new encoder was plugged in and the reset was performed.Don't know which parameter might have been messed with by the previous owner.
I am trying to thread in the machine but it has no idea where the spindle is for the thread start position.???
    Any Ideas out there????

The spindle encoder is obviously not working for some reason. Is it getting power? The encoder is supposed to get +5v power on pins 4, 5, and 6 of the Honda 20-pin connector on the CNC end of the cable.

Check parameter 5603, bit #7 (the bit on the far left). It should be a "0". Normally, service guys set a "1" in this parameter if they're forced to run the machine without a spindle encoder. If your old one went bad, someone may have put a "1" in there so that the machine would run. If so, set it to "0".

try programming in an "M19" prior to the cycle, this will orient the spindle, (you can MDI it in to see if the spindle does orient). if you see the spindle physically orient itself then the control should know its location. thus removing it from the equation of your problem. best of luck.
