CNC router projects for high school students

We are buying a 4x8 shopbot
and I am looking for project ideas for my high school class
We have the full Autodesk collection.
Just trying to get a few projects ideas after they make all the car logos they can think of.

    Thanks

How about a monocoque CNC router?

Tool Cabinets, trophey cases -- always nice when the "Shop-Kids" give something to the school - but they probably already thought of that

Experience is the BEST Teacher. Is that why it usually arrives in a shower of sparks, flash of light, loud bang, a cloud of smoke, AND -- a BILL to pay? You usually get it -- just after you need it.

How about a small piece of furniture? Design a table that comes together with no fasteners, or a collapsable chair. See who can make the most complete set from a 4x8 sheet of 3/4" plywood, so you can teach something about minimizing waste.

Some of the scroll saw plan books might have some interesting puzzles or models as well.

    Cutting board project

We have just gotten a 2' x 2', so much smaller than yours. However one idea I am going to be doing is cutting boards with them. It is a simple, introductory one, but a real-life, usable piece.

The students will create butcher block cutting boards in shop class, then cut the outside dimensions with the CNC router, and then create a juice groove. Students who are having problems can do a simple juice groove around the edge, while more advance students can do extra cuts with different bits to create a series of grooves to an outside groove, and maybe a well in one corner of the cutting board. This could also be done with a solid piece of wood (more expensive) or even starting with cutting board plastic material.

    Hope this helps.
