    Driver Watchdog Error

This is perhaps the single most frequent error I get when using mach 3.

What does it mean? What is causing it and how can I prevent it ?

My understanding is that there is a background process (ie. "watchdog") that is monitoring the parallel port driver performance. If the driver starts under performing, the watchdog alerts you to that fact.

This can happen because your machine has other processes competing for resources. Perhaps you're running other programs, your screensaver has kicked in, etc. You can either turn off the watchdog, or try and disable other processes/applications that may be interfering with the driver timing. If you're already running a very "clean" machine, then it might be telling you that you need more CPU power, RAM, etc.

It is a very clean machine with 3ghz processor and half a gig of ram. Interestingly these errors seem to become more frequent when I'm running the spindle. Do you reacon its possible that noise from the VFD could cause such an error ?

I had a few of those....I'd set the frequency wrongly to 100hz in ports and pins.....I say this as it went away completely after I took the advice of operator/check config.

Yours may be something else....worth a try for nowt

I was running at 100khz and moved down to 75khz to solve a problem with the servo drives being 'jerky' however I cant go any lower than 75khz else I wont be able to run my servos at their rated max speed; not without messing about with 'electronic gearing' and stuff anyway and then i'll lose resolution.
