Hi Folks i have just ordered myself a copy of onecnc xr3 pro to use with my haas tm1. cant wait for it to arrive and start making some stuff !

Just want to get an idea of what computer systems you good folks are using and how they perform. There are so many price ranges and specs its confusing.

Probably thinking laptop, gives a bit more flexibility but am open to ideas.

Just to get things rolling, here is a spec i pulled for a :

That will likely be fine. OneCNC does not require exotic hardware, but you can always make use of the fastest CPU/MB combo when it comes to intensive toolpath calculations for 3d toolpaths. I run OneCNC on hardware from 2 to 5 years old, and it runs well enough most of the time that I've no incentive to upgrade my equipment til it dies Mind you, I don't run many multi-megabyte nc programs.

Just stay away from pre-Athlon64 CPUs, if you're an AMD user, and stick with either ATI or Nvidia video so you have reasonable hope of seeing regular driver updates, in case of a video problem.

Good choice , i have XR3 running my Tm1 and runs like a dream.(forget Haas quickcode!! )

As far as Pc concerned would personally always go for a Desktop over Laptop as cheaper for better spec and to me laptops have always seemed a little sluggish , but if you need to take it with you or out on the road Desktops are a bit awkard

Thanks Kevh, i have been tryin to figure out the haas quick code but there seems to be some bugs in it. I need to talk to the haas engineere for guidance. (Or not if onecnc does the job).

I have read good things about the onecnc user forum and am sure will have plenty of questions

Due to my haste in trying to spec a computer i didnt properly search this forum and have found this thread http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76715
that basically answers my question. oh well i did say i was a newbe!!!!

Hi Paul

I had my tm1 a couple of weeks to get to know the basics then purchased Onecnc and havent used quickcode since got the engineer to turn it off even and have the normal Jog page!
Even if it is drilling a couple holes i'll send a prog thru the Rs232 to the machine as it so easy with speeds and feeds toolno.s and the basic prog layout.
Only thing i do manually is squaring up blocks with face mill!
