Ideas to isolate workpiece from waste material

I seem to be spending lots of time watching my cnc mill machining away waste material adjacent to the workpieces. I would like to keep as much of the excess material intact as possible, to help stabilize my workpiece. Is there a tool or command in Rhino where I can isolate the workpiece and eliminate all the extra machining? It is doubling the working time, and weakening the piece- allowing my workpiece to flex during machining... Thank you in advance!

    An idea

sounds like a prgramming issue to me I dont know much about Rhino but I have done a good share of 3d milling and I have had to try different programming applications to get the desired tool path. and elimate extra machining moves

Yes, your CAM software should have an option for that.

    sure you can

You can draw whatever kind of regions you want to contain your toolpaths. Dupedge and dupborder and then offsetting these contours is helpful, or just draw any closed shape then select the closed shape as a region for that machining operation.

A work of caution, if you contain your cutter to an area you may have islands and outside periphery material that can get clipped by a transfer move in a later operation. Use a skim clearance plane cautiously and examine the graphic tool path, simulation and/or backplot carefully.
