Can you please explain further. BobCad opens 3dm files.
I am new in this field. I have a CAD file which is drafted in Rhino. I exported it to Bob CAD for developing G-Code. I can open the file but can't do anything to it e.g. If I click on Mill stock and try to re/select the stock geometry or try to do pocketing/profiling, it doe not let me do that. I can't compute the toolpath.
Please advice something. Thanks
Hi Hardie,
Probably the model you made in Rhino is a 3d solid object. In BobCad you would use a 3d toolpath on these surfaces. THey will be selectable individually when selecting geometry for a 3d toolpath.
If you are doing "2D" operations, like pocketing and profiling, these require 2d geometry, which essentially will be the "edges" of your 3d solid. Try go to the utilities menu and select "extract edges-From Solid" then click your model and right click the workspace and choose "OK". Now blank the solid model and notice you have all the edges from it there. You can choose this geometry for the pocketing ops and others.
This is a basic way, you may want to also explore using layers with this method to seperate out the work you do. With the layers, you could extract edges-single, and only pick the edges for the op at hand.
Be sure to go over a couple of the getting started videos to get a jist of whats going on....Post back when you need some help.
Good luck.
