What kind of issues did you have with the Mikron machines.
I have never used one and would like to hear back from you.
We have narrowed are search down to Makino OKK and possibly
    Mikron.

    MIKRON.........

Our issues w/ the Mikron were primarily going from low speed to
high speed, you would get as much as .0027 deviation
in Zaxis. And being the taper was so small it made for a
very weak machine. In my opinion not something i'd look for if
I were going to do any hard machining.

    How long....

    Less than a year
I only remember its one of their 5axis mills
and I dont know if they ever got the problems
resolved. You may want to speak to jimmy he still
works there. He usually hits the board towards the eve.

We are still having the same proplem as you are. The spindle grows about .003 in about 5 minutes. I will try to find out some info for you. I try to stay away from that machine. We also have a problem with the table win it rotates the centerpoint changes. I will try to help all I can.

Does anyone have any first hand experience evaluating the Haas Machining Centers for High Speed Machining. I would be machining mostly Aluminum, so hard material machining is not an issue. I realize that Makino and Yasda as mentioned earlier are well suited but I'm not considering them at this time. I would like to know what limitations the Haas would have concerning HSM.
    Thank you.

We use a Haas VF2 for machining graphite. We have had pretty good luck. If you would like some more info, please feel free to email me directly

SRT, HAAS will work nicely for the price. Do you have the HSM option with it?

    Rekd,
I Have Haas VMC, but not the HSM option. I was checking for imput on Haas because I'm looking to get HSM on my next machining center and I thought I read a forum some time back that said the speed of the Haas look ahead (or something?) wasn't very fast for HSM. I'm not sure what year (control version) they were referring to. I am looking new and used. Would you know what year or control version that Haas began to do HSM. Also since being able to do 4th axis work competitively, I'm now receiving drawings that a 5th axis would seem worth considering. Oh yes, what an endless cycle of spending money!

    MachineSMM,
Thanks for the offer, just wondering for now, do you use more than the 10,000 RPM spindle at the present time?

    You've got that right!
First you get good, then you get fast. Then grouchiness sets in.

The thing I need to remember is that you won't get "anything" for old CNC equipment.
I've got some of them too.

We are curretly using a 10,000 rpm spindle Haas VF2 with the high speed option.

But we are looking at purchasing another verticle mill. We, I want a Makino, but It will come down to price. If it is to much we will be purchasing a Haas Super VF2 with the 12,000 spindle.

I saw that Haas Super VF2 at westec. That is a nice machine. I was impressed with it. I do hard machining at work and the haas looked pretty good if it will do what they claim. I run two Yasda's at work and if you could afford that you would love them. Yasda's are the best I have ever seen. Anyways enough about Yasda's, I just wanted to let you know that I saw the Haas machines and was impressed.

SRT, what typ of feed are you looking at in the Haas.
I have spent alot of time with them and done work at the haas factory.

I have used the many of the machines including the VR11 & VB1 5axis machines.

We are talking alum correct and not deep on the axle side but more in the higher speed with lighter cuts?

Jimmy I have to say I do like the 5axis Yasda I program.
Just one complant ,the envalope is to same for me.
