South Bend Magnaturn 1218. I just replaced the bearings in the load adapter, between spindle pump/motor and spindle. Lathe sounds great, but I noticed in my new 1218 parts and assembly manual that the load adapter originally was to be mounted via rubber encased vibration damping standoffs, which mine does not have. Just solid steel. Was rubber mounting discotinued for some reason? Or vice versa? The last load adapter bearings did not fare well. I'll probably have to pull the adapter mounting plate to modify it to accept the rubber style, so I thought I'd ask if that would be going in the right direction before I do any damage. My machine is s/n # 12, so it's an early machine that was rebuilt at South Bend around 2000. But were the standoffs retrofitted?
