one bit of advice to give you thats free is forget about the feasibility study. it may only lead to buy machines that you have no use for or to buy machines that some customer promised work for that doesn't materialize.

instead, focus your business on what you know. hopefully you have some experience, so if your an automotive guy your not going to try and jump in and do medical or aerospace work. buy the equipment you need to get your shop setup to run the way you want it and find work that fits your model. you will be much more successful this way.

btw have you seen what the economy is doing? now may not be the best time to start a shop unless its in your garage and you can afford it without taking any loans or putting yourself into financial jeopardy. maybe take a look at some of the threads here and on other boards of seasoned machine shops begging for work and working for pennies per hour.

if you don't have a customer base local to you i think your pretty much or will end up being one of the bottom feeders under quoting a whole bunch of work and then working your butt off to try and make the parts for a $20 profit.

the hardest part about running a shop is getting business. the rest is easy.
