I'm start-up with an idea for low-volume plastic injection molding.

Keeping costs down, I'll need to do my own die sinking.

I have a CAD/CAM/small CNC mill setup, but with a spindle speed of 4,500rpm max I'm pretty sure I'll get nowhere using 1mm ball-end cutters on a detailed little injection mold, right?

So if CNC EDM is still $50,000 plus, and a High speed mill is getting up there too, what do I do? Get an old 3d pantograph? Or any other suggestions how to do it?

Right now is the best time to buy used machinery. I've seen used cnc agies on the web for around $10,000. If your gonna do injection molding you definately need a sinker. I'm still gettin by with my old excello 20 amp doesnt even have a readout on it. Have to depth mike to the edge of the the trode to locate. Ive worked in high end mold shops and run makino cnc sinkers nut that old excello is almost just as fast. Only drawback is you gotta run flush and not as accurate as far as overburn.
