Hello,

I'm desigining a laser machine with flying optics. The moving mass is quite small, maybe a few ounces.

I'm thinking of using the smallest Keling DC Servo (KL23-120-36) with a timing belt pulley on its shaft, and the flying optic anchored to the timing belt.

Does anyone have experience with this specific motor, and could give me some sense of how much torque ripple I would see?

With this design, what resolution can I reasonably expect?

Assuming my timing belt pulley is 0.75" diameter (about 2.3" circumference) and a 500 CPR encoder. I'll be using a Gecko drive, which I think will give me 2000 transitions per revolution with this encoder. So, 2.3" / 2000 is about 0.001" resolution, which is OK for my application.

But if there's too much torque ripple (cogging), it won't be easy to meet this resolution figure.

Is this asking too much from the drive & motor?
