To try it out you could mount the knife in ball bearing so it can freely swivel. Mach3 also has tangential knife control using a 4th axis to maintain the knife on a tangent to the line/arcs.
On my Roland vinyl cutter the small carbide blade is held in bearing and is a 45 degree angle on the sharp edge. If you go on ebay and search for vinyl cutter supplies you will see many examples and can just buy the cutter and cartridge that holds it.
