Would it be possible with the Fanuc 6MB control to disable the spindle motor during a machining cycle. Maybe with a Macro B programme..?

Then use a 5th axis on the mill as a spindle for simple turning ops.

My software version is M53 version 13 which I think supports a 5th axis as the machine came with the switches already installed.

I would use a turning tool in the spindle with some sort of locking/locating mechanism like those seen on some mill turn centres.

I realise css and other turning features would not be supported with the Fanuc 6 milling software but I could do simple turning by using a D offset on the turning tool and also mill the inside of large bores by rotating the 5th axis and keeping the end mill staionary...?

I know Mach3 has this facility but I don't fancy a retrofit!!
