Hello, I I have just acquired a Wells-Index CNC. It is old but mechanically in fantastic shape. You can look at pictures here. http://picasaweb.google.com/CarbonDa...sIndexCNCMill#

One question I am having is about the motors. I have found that they are these ( http://www.elwood.com/m100_data4a.pdf ) The m112 models. The name plate has no info on the maximum voltage that these motors can run. The transformer for the power supply was tapped at 65vac so I am guessing they were set up for somewhere around 85vdc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am sure I will have a ton more questions but at least this will get me started on which controllers to use and such.

They apparently are rated at BEMF of 34.8v/1krev, and ~2400rpm so the max voltage will be around 84vdc for max rpm, the supply would normally be higher than this value by at least 10%.

Al, Thanks for the response!! That will give a good idea of what drives I can and can't use.

Next thing to figure out is what type of encoder it has. I know it is a Datametrics-Dresser but have been unable to find any info on them. I don't have the part number with me at the moment. I do recall something about LC23.
