The alarm is trying to tell you that the NCK back up battery needs replacing.

This sounds right. I don't have a machine here that I verify it with and we haven't been using the Siemens control for a few years now. My mind is a little foggy.

Yes the battery with the wires soldered on.
there is also a battery in the pendent on our machine.
worth a look to see and replace.

if not replaced you loose ALL your paramiters and settings. not good

    840D NCK fan alarm

    Hi,
I had the same problem and replaced the battery in the pendant,
but after a few days the NCK fan alarm appeared again.

The guys at Fadal or Siemens all said "You changed the battery, well that should have fixed it."
Over the next few days I tried various things, even installed a monster battery(10 times bigger in capacity),but nothing changed.

I googled Siemens 840D battery and somehow found a pdf file for a punch press
where the SECOND battery was shown. It is located in/next to the cluster of axis amplifier boards inside one of the white motion control boxes.
You basically pull on a small drawer that holds the battery and
there is also a fan that blows onto that battery. This fan quit working
    on my machine.
Anyway I replaced the battery and all is fine.

Every once in a while I still get a Fan alarm because the fan is actually broken and I haven't replaced it.

THE MACHINE MUST BE ON WHILE CHANGING ANY OF THESE BATTERIES!
