Minitech's new CNC Mini-Mill/GX with Rock-Solid Granite Base and Frame

    CNC Mini-Mill/GX™
    Rock-Solid Granite Base and Frame

Minitech® Machinery Corporation, Norcross, GA USA, announced today the release of their latest CNC micro milling machine, the CNC Mini-Mill/GX™ featuring a solid granite base and frame construction.

Granite construction offers excellent stability and strength along with a high degree of vibration dampening benefits that are not found in any other material.

The machine’s base and frame are ground and polished to high tolerances using natural black granite. Black granite is generally accepted as the best type of granite because of its lower porosity and moisture absorption, superior strength, lower coefficient of thermal expansion, uniformity of texture and non-glaring surface. This is the same material that high precision surface plates are made from and offers supreme strength and lasting durability.

The three axis Mini-Mill/GX™ uses linear motion (LM) guides with caged ball technology, and zero back-lash ball screw actuators made by THK™. The use of a caged-ball eliminates friction between ball bearings which achieves low noise, long-term maintenance-free operation and superbly high speed response. These high quality components make each axis perform with highest efficiency while maintaining unsurpassed accuracy.

The standard system comes equipped with a high performance stepper motor drive system for superior positioning and accuracy. The benefits of the Minitech® stepper system include a smooth and true poisoning method that does not chatter, or dither during positioning that is common among servos. This method allows for extreme positioning and repeatability of 2 to 3 microns of a millimeter.

In balance with the rest of the machine is the high speed precision spindle. We have chosen the NSK™ 2530 spindle that has 5 to 30k RPMs with less than 1 micron run-out. Other spindle systems are available with up to 3 HP, and 60k RPMs.

Minitech® hopes to gain further strength in the micro machining marketplace including the milling of microfluidic structures, prototyping and production of small parts, medical and dental applications, and jewelry manufacturing.

Base price for the CNC Mini-Mill/GX™ is $16,500

Minitech® is a well known pioneer in the development and manufacturing of computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines, and brings forth the next generation of innovative machine construction with the Mini-Mill/GX™.

all I can say is that I cannot wait to get my hands on one of these things! After watching it be developed and put together, I am looking forward to destroying some material with it!
