    It's a:

    1. Giant scale Tinker Toy airplane wheel?
    2. Spittoon for redneck audiophiles?
    3. Retro design base reflex port?

They're speakers. The round horn is for high frequencies, the big cabinet for low frequencies. The round horn is for a system I'm making for myself while the bass cabinet is for a customer. He'll have two cabinets per side. The laminating thing is too much of a pain though, so I'll do future ones differently.

Do the openings on the left of the enclosure form a folded horn? Reflex port?

Yep, it's a back loaded horn, so it's basically a fancy vented box. Insides:

That there is some complicated construction work. I've built a few sets over the years and they all are still working as far as I know. All of them were bass reflex and were just stiff boxes and homemade crossover networks or from Speaker Lab. Bought books from Radio Shack for ideas. Nothing very fancy though. The last set I made about 15 years ago are still here and working fine.

I would start looking to see what I can find online about the current state of speaker building with CNC but I'm scared of what it might do to my bottom line. Nice work.

After seeing the stuff in the background, I feel better about my shop.

My shop teacher used to tell us that a clean shop is an unused shop.

Wouldn't a back loaded horn of that size give you a low frequency roll off of around 500Hz? I thought that the size of the horn increases exponentally with the low frequency roll off. I think I remember reading many years ago about a 30Hz horn that was the size of a small room and extended outside of a persons house so the driver was technically outside! Weren't the old Klipsch speakers horns that used the corner of a room as one of the sides for the speakers?

Personally I use my router mainly for signs but I do an occasional furniture project as well. I'll post som picts when I can.

Well, it's not really a horn - like I said it's a fancy vented box. It gets down to about 30hz. The customer wanted it, so I designed it and built it. I've built 'real' horns before (and will be in the future with my router), and yes, they're much bigger. I've got some pics on my webpage if you're interested in that stuff:
