    Stopping Mach3 machining the table

I've been reading up on how to limit the Z axis, so that Mach3 does not cut into the table.

I'm now thoroughly confused between the uses of the term "limit". I understand hard and soft limits, and that they tend to be implemented to shut the machine down when reached.

I thought that Mach3 offered a facility where you could specify a cut-off point in the Z axis, so that regardless of GCode instructions, the tool would not cut any lower than this set point. More importantly the machine would finish the cut, rather than shut down if this limit was reached.

Is this the case, or do I have it wrong?

Possible the Z Inhibit? I don't know how it works, though.

One thing you might want to do is to check the program limits when you load your g-code. The -Z limit DRO will show how deep the cuts will go.

A good idea is to set your Z zero 1" higher and cut air before running the program with stock. Then you could verify that the cutter doesn't go too low.
