Aluminium profile - Fixed gantry questions

    Hi All

Get very close to locking this design in and start the parts order.
It will be fixed gantry with moving table in one axis (other will be across gantry)
    Cutting area will be around 350mm x 620mm x 120mm.
Will be used for PCB manufacture, routing fibreglass and carbon fibre panels, wood, plastic and anything else used in RC.
Slides and ball screws from ebay store LineraMotionBearings. Will be built from Al profile (similar to 8020) but in 60mm x60mm, 2 slots per side. This is perfect as they will line up with the width of the holes in the support rails for the slides.
Steppers will be in the 250-350 range. Basic controller to start with and then move up to gecko later.

Does anyone have any comments on the above in particular to the slide placement? The ones on the gantry are to the top and bottom of the profile with the centre line of the shafts 174mm a part.

    Thanks

    Gareth

PS: Google SketchUp sucks. What is a good FREE 3D cad program?
