    poor surface finish

When I try to turn less than 10 mm dia mild steel rod using a carbide tool (55 deg diamond-shaped, sharp radius), I am not getting good surface finish. It has non-uniform appearance. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

what's the RPM? how big is toolnose rad? how fast is your feedrate? Milde steel you can try .01fps
The best way to learn is trial error.

I have tried several combinations of cutting parameters without satisfactory result. The insert is DCMT 11T304, i.e., with 0.4 mm nose radius. What rpm, depth of cut and feedrate should I use?
The workpiece is 150 mm long with 10 mm diameter. I have a feeling that there is some vibration due to slenderness of the workpiece.

Yes. It was because of vibration/sharp nose only.
I tried 250 rpm and 40 mm/min feedrate, with 0.8 mm nose radius. This gives acceptable finish.
