I was pulling hair out trying to figure out why my machine was missing steps in a gcode program of a simple line at 100 ipm, but i could jog all axis at this speed and higher. Other people have had this problem with my same motor, PS and drivers and noone could give them an answer. Turns out when i turn off enhanced pulsing everything is fine. Whats the deal with this feature?? I have the 8070 drives c10 breakout and the 1200 Oz*in motors. Am i sacrificing anything significant by turning this feature off?

Enhanced Pulsing, if checked, will ensure the greatest accuracy of timing pulses (and hence smoothness of stepper drives) at the expense of additional central processor time. You should generally select this option.

Whats your PC setup?

1GHz cpu, 1GB RAM.. looking into a new one after this fiasco. I checked the pulse train quickly with a scope, couldn't measure anything different with or without enhanced pulsing, but this is inherently a tough thing to look at with the ramp up down etc. I know the manual recommends a 1Ghz CPU. Is there any info on what processor speed is capably of achieving the different pulse rates?

Try the test program (C:\Mach3\DriverTest.exe).

Art posted that his 1.2GHz is able to barely achieve 100kHz, however I use 25 on my equivalent speed laptop.

it turns out my 1Ghz processor wasn't cutting it. I upgraded to a 2.5 Ghz and went from 100ipm at 25000Khz not being able to run enhanced pulsing, to 400ipm comfortably with 45000Khz pulsing. the driver test checks out fine all the way to 100khz but i don't think i need to go any faster than 400 ipm at this time. Thanks for the help
