    Stepper motor as pressure sensor

    hey there,

Just a simple question, I want to use a stepper motor to move down a screw and in a exact moment this screw will find opposition.

I need to know if I can measure the current or torque to find out when is that exact moment to stop my motor.

roughly, I want to use the stepper motor as a touching sensor or pressure sensor. Is that possible??

I will appreciate any opinion. Many thanks.

    Perhaps with an o-scope.

I think it would be easier to use a touch probe as a detector. Take a look at this page....

    http://www.vinland.com/Touch-Probe.html

If you must use motor current a servo motor will do you better than a stepper... when they encounter resistance, the current increases to try to manintain speed. Most are rated in RPM/Volt.
