if You will ask Okuma representative, You need provide full alarm message, code also, alarm name etc
the worst case can be bubble memory. Replacement with CMOS RAM is quite expensive
sound like a bubble memory error. You can try to pull the memory board and re-seat it. Has the machine been moved recently?
No the machine hasn't been moved. There are 3 boards connected together. I'm assuming those are the ones you are referring to. When I pull them out again I'll see if any are on ebay.
before you go spend money, i'd check everything out. Especially power supply voltages. Should be test points on the CPU rack. I'd also be VERY leery ordering memory boards off EBAY. It's not like Okuma's get scraped out everyday, and if someone happens to have a bubble board laying around, it's cause they had a problem. I don't have any of my old Okuma documentation here otherwise I could help more. Good luck.

This error occurs when the CPU has read an instruction not allowed.

Thanks for the response. My LC20 4 axis does have a M2 II board but the LB 15 which may be an earlier 5000L does not.
The boards in the LB-15 are M0, M2, M3 so wondering if it would be the M2 board to replace.
Your gonna need to call your dealer. Once you replace that board, the software will need to be re-loaded. Unless you have the Okuma 8 1/2" or 5/14" floppy disk set up laying around. ( early were 8 1/2) Yes i'm that old.
Thanks underthe tire. That's what I will do. btw...I have the control tapes so uploading won't be a problem.
Do not pull these boards from the CPU rack or you will lose all. You may have the tapes but you need parameter backups. Reloading on these old controls will not be what you think. If you have been pulling these memory boards or you have to replace a memory board and do complete reloads, you will need distributor service. I am quite sure you do not have the external floppy needed and if you do then it is worth its weight in gold hang on to it. There is a lot more involved than just having the system tapes. I would recommend contacting your Okuma distributor before you go any further if its not to late already, and by all means don't trust anything off of ebay for an Okuma machne board wise.
You will not loose data pulling these boards. They are bubble memory. He will not be able to do a data.top backup with that alarm. The main parameters will be on the backup TAPE as he said. Since this machine has the tape, it probably also has the tape drive built in. You will need to set stroke limits, any communication parameters, and probably x zero. Thats really about it.
I have done many Okumas, and I have never lost any data on the bubble type machines from pulling boards. You can even pull the 7000 and newer boards as long as you don't remove the battery.
Underthetire is correct, i didn't catch the bubble part, must have been out of coffee.
maybe must change MB II (Mainboard II) after change, you can check about buble memory...you can check with how about booting. if success, buble memory is ok,if not success you can trouble shooting the others. Maybe must change buble memory. if already discontinue maybe can use C-mos memory.
