    Spindle cooling

Building a 30”x48” router with a 2.2 kw spindle. Curious how cooling is done for this size of spindle, circulation pump came with spindle. How large of a reservoir will be required to keep, the spindle cool? I am planning to monitor the coolant temperature to the spindle, what temperatures should be seen and be safe.

    any insight is greatly appreciated.

I have a 2.2kw spindle and a pump circulating water from a 22quart commercial food storage container (this one https://amzn.to/3AlpLkH)
It's hard to answer your question as the heat put out will be a matter of how hard your spindle is working which is also a function of what carrier frequency you have your vfd set to, the ambient temp, etc etc etc). That said if you have enough water, you can basically run all day as water has such a high heat capacity before the water gets even warm to the touch.
I don't know what temp would be the max temp before it stops effectively cooking the spindle. And even that would be a factor of how fast your water flow is. You see what I'm getting at... Just go for it and you likely won't have to worry about it

I have a 1.5kw spindle (not used for production) and have a 7 L tank. The fan comes on at 20C. I don’t think spindles generate a lot of heat, you just need to draw what heat they generate out.

    Re: Spindle cooling

Thanks for the feedback, seems a reasonable starting point is a 5 gallon container and monitor. I may have been overthinking this

    thanks
