    Spindle for Home CNC Hobbyist

    Hi everyone,
I am super new to the CNC world and wasn't quite sure where to post this!
I am just a hobbyist, 4 to 6 hours a week, I am just starting out and I have a Genmitsu 4040 Pro CNC machine. It only has a 75 W spindle I'd like to upgrade this to somewhere between 300 and 500W with a VFD. I do want something reliable however with my limited use I don't want to overspend, any recommendations please?

    Hi,
there is a huge selection of asynchronous spindle from China of 750W -800W. They are very well priced and mostly of pretty good quality. GPenny and Jianken are two brands that are worth looking into.

I bought, about ten years ago, an 800W German made spindle from Mechatron Gmbh. I used it and used it and used it....for many years. Still got it, but have removed it from my machine to fit a new and bigger (3.5kW (S1), 3.4Nm (S1), 10000rpm (rated)
    40000rpm (max)) spindle.

One thing about all these asynchronous spindles is that they have low torque but high speed. They are not good at low or at least lower rpm for cutting steel. If you wish to cut steel then you really have to rethink
    what you are doing.

Hi John - An 800W air cooled AC spindle will be quite big (probably too big) for a 4040 machine. There are DC 400W and 500W ER11 spindles out there that would be a better pick. I have used them on my small routers and they work fine. The 400W DC spindle 12000rpm with speed control in the image surprises me. It will be the machine stiffness that lets you down not the small spindle. The Frankie shot is a 800W AC water cooled spindle. Its perfect for Frankie's size machine. Peter
