Question Spindle taper condition, can it be fixed?

I just got the machine running and now I'm trying to get the finer details ironed out. I noticed some scratches on one side of my toolholder taper and took a look at the spindle to find the results below. I believe most of the wear was caused by the less than great toolholder also shown.

Has anyone had any good results with trying to "revive" or polish the spindle themselves? And if so how did you do it? I didn't find any major gouges or scratches but I did order some less expensive toolholders in the meantime that would be much cheaper to ruin if the polishing didn't work out. I don't have the budget for a new spindle at the moment but maybe soon if it comes to it.

Spindle rebuilders commonly regrind spindle tapers. Much less cost then a new spindle.

Ran across this spindle fix several years ago - not for the fainthearted.
