    Stepper controlled axis crash

I have a cnc machine that has stepper motors on it. Recently the computer running Mach3 crashed and it caused the machine to drive the z axis down into the machine. This broke the flexible beam coupling on the motor/leadscrew. I'm replacing the coupling and am wondering what would happen to the machine if the coupling did not break? Assuming there is not really anything else that could break, would the stepper motor burn out?

    Re: Stepper controlled axis crash

The stepper motor would just internally magnetically decouple and growl at you. But this is harmless, sounds terrible but no damage at all.
