Use of oil for linear bearings and ball screws.

After cleaning the old grease out of all the linear bearings on the 3 axis router, the quantity of debris insisted on an end seal upgrade. I installed them, but what a job that is!!
As mentioned, while re-balling 12 linear bearings (Hiwin HGH20), a close look at the inlet leaves no doubt as to why my grease gun was getting stuck on the zerk. Locked on due to high pressure. Always wondered about that. Hindsight is quite a thing.
As for the ball nuts, there isn't one of the three whose 6mm inlet is even visible, Z and X are prone to more swarf based on proximity to cutting action. The wiper is nearly useless. Even a reputable brand has a really lousy wiper. Is there no upgrade for those?
Hiwin has a section on suggested lube other than grease. So...
I thought I would try a manual oil pump and 4mm nylon tube to deliver. For the short term, I'll not run all separate lines through the wire loom which has little extra space anyway.
One product available in Canadian stores that may suffice is a Mobil Oil product designed for engine break-in period. 2 - 5W range

I have tested a fairly viscous oil additive for, again, breaking in rebuilt or new motors. Results were less than stellar. The pump seemed to be drawing in as much air as lube.
First inclination was to thin the product, though it may have been due to an air lock or I just failed to pour enough in the tank.

I would love to have your feedback.
    Thanks
    Chris

Hi Flyer - I use a paraffin wax vs an oil. It leaves a solid wax surface to protect and lub plus being a solid does not attract dust so minimises muck getting into bearings.... Peter

Thanks, I replied to the post, not to you, so to make sure you are notified. How is it done?

Hi Chris - I apply by spray and/or rag every so often. There will be industrial waxes suitable for the job as well. Don't use beeswax. Paraffin and microcrystalline waxes and carnauba are the keywords for machinery. Peter
