I have an old Victor TNS-2 CNC lathe Serial number NF 1514. It ran fine until this morning when I tried to turn it on like I usually do first thing in the morning. Today I got an ER2 light showing up when I first turned on the machine, but no error messages and no alarm messages. The ER2 light goes on almost immediately when I press the green power button on the machine console. The actual controller button then turns green for a second, but then turns off once the ER2 light goes on. The display works, and the buttons work, but I cannot move any axis. In addition, I can't even set the PWE parameter from 0 to 1 or vise versa as I cannot seem to input anything. The boards in the back of the machine show no errors and have the green lights on. I have checked all cables, connections, etc. I also checked all relays by replacing them with relays from another TNS-2 machine, as well as the timer relays. I have the ladder logic manual for this particular machine, and have found the Error 2 light lamp in the ladder logic diagram (line 02299 57F), but when I press the diagnostics button on the controller, the ladder logic graphics come on, but there are no text or line numbers shown. All I see are some ladder lines but no numbers, letters, or anything to reference what is shown. Further, the ladder logic images that come up only scroll to line 0466 whereas the hard copy shows 2495 lines. The ladder line for ER2 is line 2299 so I cannot even scroll to this. In addition, when I compare say lines 0001 to 0005 on the display with that of the hard copy, they do not seem to have the same layout. Perhaps some of the lines are missing , or only certain lines are showing up? Otherwise, if I could just see the same ladder logic on the monitor as I see in the hard copy book, it would be easy for me to identify what is causing this ER2 light to go on.
level devil
The ladder diagram in the manual shows the ERS light going on with any of the following occurring:
1) PER R550.0 Program Error: This is caused by improper programming calls. Since the error light goes on immediately when I first power on the machine, I doubt it has anything to do with the program error
2) DER R550.2 PC Data Error. Maybe? If I had a way to see the state of internal relay R550.2 I would know it this is it. I do not know how to see the state of R550.2 because the ladder diagram on the monitor does not show me any text
3) MER R550.4 Machine Error. Maybe? Same as above.
4) AL F149.0 Alarm Signal? Not sure
5) BAL F149.2 Battery Alarm I changed out the batteries just to make sure. The ER2 is still coming up. Usually when there is a battery issue there is a message on the machine monitor and I have no such message so I doubt this is is.
6) SPAL F154.0 Spindle fluctuation detection alarm. Probably not it as the spindle is not even moving yet. ER2 comes up as soon as I turn the power onto the machine controller.
7) LPCHK R501.4 Lamp check. Not quite sure. This also references me to a -zM and +Zm and a timer TM02. Again, if I knew of a way to determine the state of R501.4 I would know.
Thus, all I can do is narrow it down to probably #2, #3, #4, and maybe #7. Still not enough for me to do anything. Since there are no errors or red lights on any of the boards, I am thinking maybe a PC data error since it is an old machine. However, if there was some data corruption I would think the controller would not work at all vs basically work completely like it does. Also in the back of the machine, there is no board at all in the slot the says PMC? The main board is Fanuc A02B-0098-B511 and it has a slot made for what is labeled as PMC. However, there was never such a board here and it has run fine until today.
So I have really no idea of how to figure out the problem here. Maybe someone knows how I could figure out the state of one of these internal relays so I could at least narrow down the rung on the ladder that is causing this error? All I can display on the monitor are the diagnostic parameters. The machine ran fine the day before, and it has run fine all before today. I merely turned on the machine and the ER2 light just showed up. However, a few months ago I recall that this ER2 light did turn on once when I first turned on the machine but I repowered again and the light went off an has never come back on until today. I have tried powering off and back on the machine dozens of times today and no luck. ER2 light just comes on immediately and I cannot do anything.
Any suggestions?
