Set Up an Oxy Torch!
Set Up an Oxy Torch!
If you're building a machine and can't afford the plasma portion just yet, start off as I did. You could even use a hand torch. Get your machine up and running this way, by making parts.

Electronics: Spindle Speed Optical Sensor-Pokeys57cnc

D&M CNC Mill
D&M CNC Mill
I am retrofitting a D&M CNC mill. I have installed an auto draw bar and a rotary tool changer. I have gone through a lot of electronics and have changed directions several times. I abandoned all the "Chinese stuff" as advised by many and am now worse off than before! I am now trying to make a go with the Pokeys57cnc sold as Mach3 compatible with included plugin. The after sale sales-pitch is to abandon my 7 years of experience with Mach3 and buy Mach4! Learn new software and re-script everything I've done In Mach3? Sounds like more fun then a barrel of monkeys!

Metalworking: Solid Bench Top Mill Build

Vertical Mill Build
Vertical Mill Build
I've been working on this for a while but never got around to posting it. My intention was to build a machine rigid enough to machine stainless etc. So, it's ended up being rather substantial for its size. This is more or less where it stands now; the base is basically intact. I've just dropped it off for stress relieving today. It should travel 300x300x160mm. I can change the Z axis if I need more travel. It was difficult to get a final design because I wanted to make it as versatile as possible. For example, I can use Nema 23 or 34 steppers. I can add belt drive reduction, if it's necessary. I have made enough room to add a second ball nut to each axis to remove backlash. I can make spacers to lift up the X and Z assembly if I need more Z height, etc.
