EMO HANOVER REVIEW

02. Octobeer 2017

Okuma successfully introduces LASER EX series and Industry 4.0-solution Connect Plan

The super multitasking machines from Okuma's LASER EX series and the manufacturer's smart factory solution Connect Plan were the highlights at the company's stand during this year's EMO Hanover (18-23 September). In addition, the single-source provider presented newly developed machine tools as well as highly efficient automation technology. Okuma, represented in {your country] by [please insert local distributor from list below], welcomed more than 4,000 visitors to its stand and was able to conclude a number of sales at the fair.

Laser-assisted super multitasking

For the first time in Europe, Okuma presented the super multitasking machines from its LASER EX series. The new machines combine the best of both subtractive and additive manufacturing, offering process-intensive turning, milling and grinding as well as precision hardening and hard coating via laser. High-definition Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) enables unparalleled quality in additive manufacturing, heat treatment and sectional repairs. This wide array of features did not go unnoticed: The LASER EX series won the 'MM Award' for best multi-function machine at EMO Hanover.

Interconnected production with Connect Plan

Okuma's smart factory solution Connect Plan is designed for connecting machines in IoT-based production plants. The application enables advanced visualisation of the entire factory as well as real-time data processing and analysis. Before the actual machining process, operators can run a highly-accurate three-dimensional simulation to make sure everything will work out as planned. An artificial intelligence (AI) integrated in Okuma's CNC allows predictive maintenance to avoid costly repairs and downtimes. After its successful introduction to the Japanese market, Connect Plan was met with a great deal of interest from European decision-makers at EMO.

New range of machine tools and advanced factory automation

Okuma presented a variety of additions to its ever-growing portfolio. The new 5-axis vertical machining centre MU-S600V enables high-mix, low-volume production with productivity on par with that of mass production. The machine's main features are its unrivalled floor-space efficiency and the ability to automatically convey the workpiece from one unit to the next without additional equipment. Also on show at the stand were fully automated production cells as well as multitasking machines, lathes and grinders in conjunction with automatic pallet changers, automatic tool changers and Okuma's Gantry Loader.
